2022 - 2023 CLUBS AND DIRECTIONS
DIRECTIONS TO ACCESS CLUBS
STEP 1: Log into Schoology
STEP 2: Click on "Groups" (next to "Courses)
STEP 3: Click "My Groups" (small tab in right corner, below your profile name)
STEP 4: Click "Join Group" (on right hand side below 'Manage Groups")
STEP 5: Type in the Access Code for the club you want to join. Click on "Read More" in the club text box below to view Access Code.
STEP 6: Your new club group will appear under "My Groups".
If you have any trouble, please email the club advisor to be added to the group. You may sign up for as many clubs as you'd like!! Have fun!
ANIMAL CARE CLUB
Calling all animal lovers! This year, the Animal Care Club will be researching and exploring ways to support endangered animals, service animals and animals living in shelters. In addition to learning about these animals, we will undertake several service projects throughout the year to support them in our local shelters.
ART CLUB
The purpose of the Art Club is to create artwork that helps make our building and our community beautiful.

BREAKOUT EDU
Breakout EDU is an immersive learning games platform. Breakout EDU games consist of a combination of physical and digital puzzle elements that must be solved in a set amount of time. Players of all ages are challenged to open the locked Breakout EDU box using critical thinking, collaboration and creativity.

CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
Chamber Orchestra consists of dedicated musicians who play string instruments. We are open to all grades 6, 7, and 8. We play fun music and perform at the winter and spring orchestra concerts!

DEBATE CLUB
The JJMS debate club is a great place for students to explore the art of "organized arguing." In a fun and safe environment, students will learn to create logical, ethical, and emotional arguments to persuade others in the club that their "side" is correct. We will use the formal debate format to work together in building our "strong voices" and presentation skills (and have fun).

INTRAMURALS
The JJMS Intramural Program is an opportunity for students to participate in additional physical activity after school. All students are welcome and may choose to join on a day-to-day basis. Intramurals are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:00-4:00 PM. Activities change monthly. Please see the intramural schedule available on our school website or check the whiteboard for the posted activity. Sample activities: Fitness Center, Touch Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, and Ultimate Frisbee.

JAZZ BAND
Do you like Jazz? Do you want to play other genres of music? Well Jazz Band may be the right place for you. This is a band for all instruments from Flute to Double Bass. “No Place for Hate” is a club through which students will work together to improve school climate and work to eliminate instances of bullying and bias. Our goal is to empower students to take a stand against bullying and bias and to create and maintain a safe and inclusive school environment in which all students belong.
THE PEN (LITERARY MAGAZINE)
The Pen is John Jay Middle School’s literary magazine. It is published yearly and is a collection of short stories, poems, essays, opinion pieces, and artwork. The entries may evolve from class assignments or may be self-motivated pieces. Every student at the middle school is invited to join and/or contribute. We are looking for writers, artists, and editors……or anyone who just wants to explore their creative side! Come join us!

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
Science Olympiad is a STEM competition in which teams from around the Westchester area compete in various scientific fields, such as Anatomy and Physiology, tower / bridge building, rocks and minerals, forensics and more. Events can generally be separated into three categories. Study, Build, and Lab. This club runs every Thursday from October to March 2nd.

BEST BUDDIES CLUB
JJMS will be partnering with JJHS in the creation of the Best Buddies local chapter. The Best Buddies Club gives neurotypical and neurodivergent students a chance to make friends, build connections and have fun! Students will participate in themed activities while listening to music, talking with peers, and enjoying a snack. Students can attend the Best Buddies club without committing to all meetings.
