Members of John Jay Middle School’s Green Team are full of ideas that could advance sustainability in their school and community. We popped into their monthly meeting to learn about some of the projects they are preparing to share at the Katonah-Lewisboro Sustainability Fair on Tuesday, April 22.
Green Teams from across the District will showcase their work at the Sustainability Fair—from elementary schools' art projects created with recyclables to high school students' environmentally-themed Science Research projects. One of the things all ages are learning is how to channel intentions into actions.
At John Jay Middle School's Green Team meeting, Samara and Kathryn were at the sewing machine, repurposing old clothes into headbands and bags. Reilly spoke to us about ways to “close the loop” on the compostable cups by water coolers in the school’s hallways .
Lola was conferring with the Mrs. Brady on how best to invite the community to help turn part of the school’s courtyard into a wildflower meadow. Alexa was sorting outgrown John Jay Wolves hoodies and shirts that families have donated, preparing for the second annual Spirit Wear Swap!
From planning games that teach children about the environment to offering all ages information and action steps to help marine life, members of John Jay’s Green Team are committed to creating positive changes, and sharing their work with others.
