Background: You are requesting a math class placement against the teacher's recommendation.  To assist you in making the best decision about which course(s) to select, please consider the following:

1.      There is a JJMS recommendation process which provides guidelines to teachers connected to criteria shown to be important for a student’s successful course experience.

2.      There are differences between the recommended class and the class you desire.  Each course has a certain pace and expectations for quality of work.  Accelerated courses have increased rigor in pacing and depth of material covered. 

3.      If you decide to return to a standard level after the school year begins, we cannot guarantee a favorable schedule change.  For 7th-grade students waiving into Math 7A or 8th-grade students waiving into Algebra 1, course changes are not permitted after December 17th, 2025.

*Waiver Form must be signed by all parties indicated below and submitted by the student to their counselor no later than April 9, 2025*

Process: Before a student may enroll in the accelerated course, the parent/guardian is required to have communication with the current teacher to discuss the course recommendation.  The student must also obtain the following signatures:
