JJMS Relay Field Day

JJMS Relay Field Day

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we shared earlier this year, John Jay Middle School is taking up the challenge of supporting the American Cancer Society through Relay For Life that will culminate in a Relay Field Day for all students at the end of the year.  Sadly, far too many   of us are personally affected by cancer and our hope is that starting this program, as a community, will allow us to fight back.

Our Relay For Life program is an extension of the American Cancer Society, the Society’s signature event that brings together communities to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against cancer. At Relay For Life events, participants walk or run around a track or path in teams and raise funds that help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

Relay For Life events also provide middle school students an opportunity to learn to make healthy choices about nutrition, physical activity, sun safety, and tobacco and alcohol prevention. Cancer education is essential at this age because the good habits children learn early in life will stay with them as they grow into adulthood. These good habits will help them stay well and avoid the risk of serious disease, including cancer. Additionally, the Relay For Life program provides middle school students valuable leadership and community services experience and activities.

For our first year, we have a fundraising goal for JJMS of $2500.  Some of the fundraising that will be happening throughout the year to help us raise money are bake sales, sports tournaments, candygrams and more.  It is completely voluntary to participate in any of these fundraising events.

You can donate to our fundraiser using our team page linked here. This page also shares more resources about how your donations support the American Cancer Society.
