Team Curiosity Welcome Letter

Summer 2023

Team Curiosity

Curiosity: a strong desire to know or learn something

Dear Team Curiosity student,

We hope you are enjoying your summer vacation! A new school year is right around the corner. We understand that your transition to John Jay Middle School might evoke a wide variety of emotions. Hopefully, one of those feelings is excitement! Coming to a new school can be a little scary, but we are confident that by the end of the first week of school you will be feeling very safe and comfortable.

On Team Curiosity, Mrs. Loeb teaches math and science, Mrs. Daley-Savo teaches English language arts (ELA) and social studies.

Now that you are in sixth grade, you will have many opportunities to grow as an independent learner and enjoy developing new perspectives. Our goals for you are that you will nurture your curiosity by asking great questions, and that you will learn to think critically about the world around you. Furthermore, we will help you improve your organizational and time management strategies to help you navigate life at JJMS and beyond. These life-long skills are as important as any curriculum you will learn.

You may have purchased school supplies through the PTO or collected them on your own. On the first day, bring all the materials to school and we will help you organize them.  We will provide you with additional information about what will stay in your locker, the classroom and at home.

You will receive your iPad to use during this school year on our first day back. Each student will need to provide a protective sleeve for their iPad. If you do not already have one that fits a 9” iPad, you can purchase your own or the JJMS Student council school store has wolf print protective sleeves for sale for $10.00 each.

We are looking forward to learning what you are curious about learning this year as you begin your adventure as a middle school student, and seeing how we can help you develop your curiosity as a 6th grader! Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Daley-Savo and Mrs. Loeb
