Halloween at the Middle School
Middle school students ARE permitted to wear costumes to school on Halloween.  Please assist us by discussing the following at home:

As is the case with all school attire, costumes must be school appropriate.  Students may not wear anything of a suggestive nature, anything related to drug or alcohol use, or anything with a violent theme.  If you are not sure, it is best to consider another costume.  Please do not put us in the unfortunate position of having to speak to you or your child on what should be a fun day.

No masks of any kind are permitted in school.

No props of any kind are permitted in school.

Masks or props will be taken from students and will not be returned until parents make an appointment and pick them up the following week.  Materials will not be returned in time for student use on the evening of 10/31.

PTO Fundraiser
As a fundraiser, the PTO is selling John Jay clothing.  If you would like to show your school spirit and support the PTO, you can find an order form on their website.  Click on the PTO link and choose the "information" section to find order information.

Notes from Home
1.  Bus notes and pick up notes must be dropped off before homebase, in the trays located by Mrs. Burns at the reception desk.  Your pass must be picked up at lunch time outside the dining room.
2.  Early dismissal and absentee notes go to Mrs. Riley in the attendance office.  When you arrive at school late or you have been absent, you must submit a note to the attendance office upon your arrival to school.

Students who stay late for sports or other activities:  If you take the 5:15 bus, you should report to the main hallway, not the dining room.  Your coach or advisor will meet you there.

Reminders to Students
1.  The Library will be closed after school on Fridays.
2.  All students who attend music rehearsals during home base need to check in to home base first and then report to rehearsal.
3.  Students are allowed to wrap lockers each week on the first day of school, usually Monday.  Only when we are off on Monday, may lockers be wrapped the next day.  Students should report to the main office first for permission and supervision.
4.  Every time there is a music rehearsal, there is homebase at the end of the day, from 2:03 to 2:35.
5.  If you have questions about sports problems, you may only visit the health office before/after school or during your lunch period.  You may not leave any class period to resolve these issues.
6.  You may not use office phones to call home.  Please remember to bring everything you need to school and make arrangements for after school activities while at home.
7.  You are reminded that no food or drink is allowed outside during recess.  Make sure you finish your lunch before going outside.

KLSD Community Celebrates Homecoming 2008
Hundreds of students and their families were involved in a week-long celebration of team-building and unity, which culminated in a parade at the JJHS varsity football game on Saturday, October 4. High school students put many hours of work into their class presentations: 3-D murals throughout the hallways, skits at the pep rally for the many teams that participated in athletics over Homecoming weekend on September 26-27 and costumes, props and floats for the parade.
